When I started out on my health journey I remember it was after a holiday weekend (much like right now). A holiday where I had overindulged in all the treats and I felt bleh. Bloated, headachy, dehydrated, low energy, and worst of all I felt guilty. I felt guilty about the way I had been treating my body. I felt gross.
So, I found a clean eating plan. I made a commitment to stick to it. I bought groceries for a week. I had my husband on board with me. And I started. Day 1 was no big deal, it was actually nice and refreshing. Day 2, also not so bad. Days 2-5 were a little hard, but I stuck to it. I started feeling good and already I could see I had lost a couple pounds! Then, during week 2 I was feeling great, my weight had come down a little, and I was at an event faced with the decision to eat a dessert. Since I had worked so hard I felt I deserved it and went ahead with the dessert, no big deal.
But it was a big deal. One dessert quickly turned into two, because I had no idea when I’d allow myself dessert again. I completely fell off the wagon. The next morning somehow I justified having doughnuts for breakfast, pizza for lunch and it just kept going. I felt out of control, like I couldn’t stop! Then after a few days (and putting back on the same 3-5 lbs) I was back where I started, feeling guilty and making another plan.
It was a cycle, and I was stuck in it for a long time.
