I feel a little silly being someone that is not a runner, and here I am writing about running. I’ll admit it, I am a full hearted wanna-be. About 10 years ago I was in San Diego and got blocked in marathon traffic. It’s where I first witnesses the Rock n’ Roll Marathon in all its musical glory. The thumping music and happy crowd was filled with so much enthusiasm that me being blocked in traffic was sucked into the excitement and I swore I had to one day run this marathon.
Years have passed. Too many years that it’s almost embarrassing. I turned 35 just over a month ago and it was like a switch went off and I’m starting to work on my bucket list.
I started training several weeks ago, first with a few 2 mile runs, then stretching it out to 3. Today I ran 7 miles and to date that is the longest run of my life. I was so excited I actually did a happy dance when I finally hit my front lawn!
So here’s the low down:
Before running: I run first thing in the morning, so I downed a small glass of water and 1/2 of a Cocao Coconut RxBar Protein Bar. I LOVE these bars! They’re the perfect balance of protein, carbs, fat and they taste great. I ate the other 1/2 of the bar post run.
Mile 1 seems to always be my slowest.
Mile 2 included an incline that I was happy to get over with.
Mile 3 I underestimated where 3.5 miles would be for my 1/2 mark, so when I hit my house near the end I had to keep running around the block. Bah.
Mile 7.38 is what I actually accomplished and it felt awesome.
I still have plenty of time (5 months) before the Rock n’ Roll Marathon, so stay tuned for more fitness posts! Happy running!
