One of the biggest challenges I’ve had since starting my health food journey is keeping the course while eating out. I’m sure there are many of you out there that face the same challenge! It is HARD!
Don’t get me wrong, I am all for the occasional treat meal or indulgence. In those situations I don’t typically seek out healthy options because that takes all the fun out of a “treat”! Besides, I have an iron gut and don’t have any food intolerances or health issues that prohibit me from eating gluten or anything like that. That is not what this post is about.
When I’m talking about challenges eating out, I’m NOT talking about a treat meal or indulgence. I’m talking about those nights where you are just too tired to cook or wash dishes, those lunches out with co-workers or friends, those times where you’re eating out BUT you want/need to stick to your healthy meal plan. There are restaurant options out there my friends, many many options, but they are often hiding under all the layers of major chains. I’m going to start a little “Eating Out” feature here for all you foodies that love to eat out, but need/want to keep it healthy and clean!
My first restaurant feature is Aubergine & Company located in Orem, UT. They specialize in healthy Mediterranean foods made from fresh ingredients. Their menu is filled with salads, sandwiches, soups, acai & petaya bowls. They even serve breakfast and have a kids menu!
I ate there the other day with a few fellow blogger friends and we absolutely loved it, everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. I ordered the Tuscany Salad, and skipped the mozzarella but added olives and chicken to make it a full meal.
I am really impressed with their salad dressings. Only the ginger pesto dressing had any sort of sugar in it, this one have agave. Most others were Whole30/Paleo compliant. What I really liked was that all the dressing ingredients were listed on a sign, so I didn’t have to ask a million questions to figure out what I was eating. And yes, I asked if there were any additional ingredients that weren’t listed (like sugar) and they said absolutely NOT! I love this place!
Happy eating! ~Tiffany
