It’s turkey time and I must confess, I’ve NEVER actually cooked a turkey. My parents, my dad especially, are major foodies and are always looking forward to trying new techniques on the turkey. So me, I’ve become the side dish connoisseur and love upstaging the turkey with all the delicious sides!
I’ve put together my list of favorite dishes that will have all your guests asking for seconds and thirds! Make extras because you will definitely want leftovers!
I like to start my meal out with appetizers, soups and salads. Here are a few options that are my favorites:
You can’t go wrong with bacon, and these Bacon Wrapped Stuffed Jalapenos are a perfect finger food appetizer.
These Veggie Shooters with Ranch Dip are fun and people love the way they are served.
Or try these Crispy Buffalo Chicken Fingers from Stupid Easy Paleo.
Keeping with the pumpkin themed holiday try my Creamy, Paleo Pumpkin Soup
Creamy Celery Soup, I know this sounds weird, but I served it for a Christmas dinner starter and it was a hit! Everyone kept saying “this is amazing, what is in this soup?!”.
This Sweet Potato and Onion Soup from PaleoLeap would be a cool spin on the traditional Sweet Potato dish.
Give a nod to fall with my Fall Squash Salad. You’ll be so surprised at how delicious those little bites of squash are in a salad.
Make things feel a little fancy with this Arugula & Fennel Salad. It’s different, but oh so delicious.
This Blood Orange and Spinach Salad from Paleo Grubs would be perfect for this time of year.
You’ll need several side dishes to round out your meal, and these are a few of my favorites.
VEGETABLE SIDE DISHES:
Here’s where you can sneak all the nutrients in, while still having a delicious enjoyable meal. Try Zucchini Trifolati, it will have you loving zucchini in a whole new way, and it’s just really fun to say Zucchini Trifolati.
I shared my favorite way to cook Brussels Sprouts over on Mom’s Best Network. The cranberries make this dish really pop!
A delicious spin on green bean casserole would be these Blistered Green Beans With Tomato-Almond Pesto, over on bon appetit.
And last, but not least, there are so many delicious paleo desserts out there you won’t feel deprived if you need or want to skip the pie.
Check out my Roasted Apples with Pecans, you’ll think you’re actually eating apple pie.
These No-Bake Mini Pumpkin Bites from Savory Lotus will cure and pumpkin pie cravings.
You can always whip up a batch of Berries and Cream like Cave Girl In The City.
Hopefully a few of these dishes have left you feeling inspired and maybe a little hungry. I’m so excited for tomorrow, being surrounded by family and food. Two of my most favorite things! Happy Thanksgiving!
